My Information report about Sugata Mitra

Agents of Change can make a difference in children’s education

In 1999 a scientist from Delhi,  Sugata Mitra, introduced technology to kids that had never seen, touched and even heard about it. He put a computer in his office wall and watched as the children from the slum across the road come and push the buttons.  His ‘Hole in the Wall’ idea has made learning possible for kids that don’t have opportunities to get a good education.  Professor Mitra is an agent of change. An agent of change is someone that makes a big change to something. His vision was to open the door of learning for children in India who lived in places that had no teachers. He thought that kids would be able to learn how to use a computer even when everything was in a different language. He was right because the kids were able to translate the information into the language the students were speaking.  Another thing he found was that the students were able to learn how to use the computers by working collaboratively as a group. His idea gave the kids a chance to explore the things that were happening outside their villages. Online maths games and being able to search for information have kept the kids interested and made them want to keep learning.Granny clouds encourage the students by asking them questions about what they have learnt and by admiring their work. These kind words keep the children on task and wanting to learn new things.By introducing the Hole in the Wall computers Sugata Mitra has made learning available and interesting to kids who don’t have the opportunities that I have. Hopefully his idea will let these kids continue to get a good education.

My Xtra Maths

This is my Xtra maths score you can see that I didn't get anything wrong my score is way better than last time and I'm proud of my self.

My Maths

This is my 10x table results I used my multiplication to get the answers right.  Please leave a comment on my blog

Don't subtract, Add

  1. Moana has $81 and she gives her friend $18. How much money does Moana have left?
18 + 2 = 20
20 + 60 = 80
80 + 1 = 81
        18 + 63 = 81 so 81 - 18 = 63
  1. Jake collected $75 from his pocket money to buy a present for his mum. The present only costs $39 so how much change does he have?
       39+1=40
                                   40+30=70
                                   70+5=75
                            39+36=75 so 75-39=36

  1. Dad takes $93 with him to the fair. He comes back with $57. How much did he spend?
57+3=60
                                 60+30=90
                                 90+3=93
                          7+36=93 so 93-57=36
  1. At the park the lolly seller has collected in $103.
She has to pay $88 out for buying lollies for the next day. How much money does she have left?
                                   88+2=90
                                   90+10=100
  100+3=103
                          88+15=103 so 103-88=15
  1. Sam has $110 and spends $89 on some play station games he wanted. How much money does he have left?
    89+1=90
     90+10=100
                               100+10=110
                       89+21=110 so 110-89=21
  1. I start shopping with $64 and come home with $38. How much did I spend when I was out shopping?
 38+2=40
                                        40+20=60
                                       60+4=64
                                38+26=64 so 64-38=26
  1. I wanted to collect $100 for charity, but only managed to get $82. How much less than $100 is that?
  82+8=90
                     90+10=100
                       18

The hard bit of this maths was I  couldn't  work out the answers in my head using multiplication.

Xtra Maths

This is my score on xtra maths  I  can't believe the amount of ticks I have got, but I still need to pay more attention to the questions.

My Speech

Speech

Is school really the place for make up? I don’t think so. School is a place to learn in not a place to look pretty in.

Imagine you're in class and everyone around you is listening for instructions, but then all of a sudden you realize that you are no longer listening to the teacher because someone walks in with make up on. Like everyone else you turn and look at them and because you do that you forget what the teacher is saying.

Think about make up, do you think girls should wear make up at school? I don’t think so! In the winter the lipstick will melt when the heater is on and if you have left it in your desk your books will be smudged with whatever colour you think looks good.

Make up can have things in it that some girls are allergic to. I know that it makes them look pretty but it will cause oily skin. As I said the higher the lead ingredient of the lipstick, the more they get the chance of causing cancer.  So do you want to get cancer? Well don’t wear it in the first place.

Lots of girls want to wear make up when they are young but I think if we tell them about what it can do to their skin some girls might change their minds. After all I don’t think many girls would want dry skin and pimples.

Make up should be banned at school because the people who actually wear the make up will end up spending their whole lunch time putting make up on rather than playing sport. School is not a place for people to wear make up. because if the girls gets a reaction problem then it will be your fault so I'm warning you DON’T let girls  wear make up to school!
